Bathroom Odours Place a shallow dish of baking soda behind the toilet to absorb
bathroom odours.
Hand Odour To get rid of onion or garlic smells wet your hands in
running water and then rub your fingers and palms briskly on the
silver metal of yourstainless steel sink. Wash hands
normally afterwards with hand soap and water.
Kitty Litter To keep cat litter fresh smelling, mix baby powder in with the
litter.
Laundry Basket Place a fabric softener sheet in the bottom of your laundry basket
(remember to change it weekly) You can also simply sprinkle some
baking soda in the bottom of your basket and that will help absorb
the odours as well.
Room Odours Put a few drops of favourite perfume on the bulb
of a table lamp and switch it on. The heat from the bulb will pass a
fragrant aroma around the room. Also spray polish behind a radiator.
Tobacco Place 1/2 inch of Baking Soda in the bottom of the
ashtray to eliminate stale tobacco odours. Replace the Baking Soda
when you empty the ashtray. Also a saucer of vinegar in the corner
of your room will act as an air freshener. It will absorb odours
such as cigarette smoke etc.
Chopping Boards Apply a thick paste of bicarbonate of soda and water,
leave for a few minutes, scrub thoroughly and rinse under a cold
tap.
Pet Pee & Vomit Club soda is a good product to put directly on the vomit or urine
spot after first blotting up as much as possible and leave for
approximately 5 minutes. and then blot the club soda. The club soda
neutralizes the vomit or urine.
Water in a vase If certain flowers cause the water in the vase to smell bad after
a few days, add a tablespoon of household bleach to the water when
you put the fresh flowers in. The water will stay fresh for at
least a week and your flowers will last longer.
Spoiled Food Odour
Place a bowl of white vinegar on the counter for a few hours. The
odour will disappear for good.
Odour Removal
Cooking Odours To get rid of cooking smells, simmer a small pot of vinegar and
water solution on the hob, the vinegar will absorb the odour.
Refrigerator odours A dab of orange, lemon or vanilla extract on a small piece of
cotton placed inside your fridge will keep it smelling sweet.
Kitchen Drains A nasty odour coming from your sink in the kitchen it will
be your drain needing a freshen up. Pour a cup of vinegar down the
plug hole, let stand for 30 minutes and then flush with cold
water.
Microwave Ovens To freshen up and dispel any lingering smells in your microwave,
put a bowl, half filled with water in the microwave with 3 or 4
slices of lemon in it. Cook on full power for 30 seconds.
Lunchbox Odours Soak a piece of bread in vinegar and let it sit in the lunchbox
over night. All the odours will have gone.
Pet Bedding Eliminate odours from pet bedding by sprinkling liberally with
Baking Soda, wait 15 minutes or longer for stronger odours, then
vacuum. Baking Soda is non-toxic and safe to use around your pets.
Bad Breath Chew fresh parsley after eating a meal. This fragrant herb contains
an antiseptic that kills bacteria in the mouth. It's effective
against garlic and onions too, as are mint leaves. If in doubt see
your dentist.
Oven Odours To remove the odour from the oven place a bowl of vinegar in the
oven an leave for a while. The vinegar will absorb the smell.
Linen Closet In the linen closet place cotton balls that have been sprayed with
your favourite scent. Once they are dry place them in corners and on
the shelves.
Trainers
Take a few teaspoons of baking soda
and put in the centre of a cotton cloth. Tie the cloth and rubber
band the edges securely creating a baking soda sachet, which you put
in the trainers overnight as well. These sachets can be used over
and over in any kind of shoe.
