Tobacco from Fingers Use a cotton bud dipped into bleach and rub gently onto tobacco
stains. Only do this when necessary and not on cracked skin.
Red Wine Removing red wine from fabrics, put club soda on the stainas soon as possible after spilling the wine.
Candle Wax To remove wax from carpeting you should first scrape awayany excess. Then using a warm iron and a clean cloth or even a
paper bag place the iron on top of the cloth over the wax and as
you iron it will stick to the cloth instead of the carpet.
Clean a Toilet Drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets, wait twenty minutes, brush and
flush.
Tea Stains Rinse the stained area with water, then add some lime juice and
leave it for a few seconds. Rinse and wash as usual.
Perspiration To
remove perspiration stains, sponge ingrained stain with a
solution of white vinegar, rinse, and soak overnight in warm to
hotwater in soap powder.
Non Stick Cookware Remove stains on non-stick cookware by boiling 2 tbs. of baking
soda, 1/2 cup vinegar and 1 cup water for 10 minutes.
Tippex on Clothes Scrape off as much of the white deposits as possible, as soon as
possible. Clean off the remainder with a little white
spirit.
Shoe Polish Apply one part rubbing alcohol and two parts water on coloured
fabrics. Use straight alcohol on whites.
Gravy on Clothes Soak in
cold water using a biological detergent and then wash in a
strong biological detergent.
Rust on Clothes Apply lemon juice and salt, then let dry in the sun. On white
garments, cover the stain with cream of tartar and gather up the
ends of the garment to keep the powder on the stain dip the spot
into hot water for 5 minutes, then wash as usual.
Stains in White Underwear Use a cup of bleach, not water and half a cup of dish washer
detergent. After leaving to soak, then wash as usual.

Onions Eliminate tears when peeling or slicing onions if you first place
the onions in the freezer for four or five minutes.
Lipstick To prevent lipstick staining your drinking glass, lick the glass
before drinking out of it.
Scissors Cut a piece of foil or sand paper with your scissors a few times
this should sharpen them nicely. Only for flat edged scissors.
House Plants Keep your house plants looking good. Wipe the leaves with
mayonnaise, it makes the leaves shine. It's cheaper than sprays and
does not harm the plant.
Old Paint Brushes Old hardened paint brushes can often be saved. Soak in hot vinegar
and comb through with an old fork.
Fabric Softener Use an old tea towel as a fabric softener sheet. Pour a couple of
capfuls of softener on it and throw it in the dryer. Add more
softener about every 15 loads or when you notice a little
static. It helps to use a towel that is distinct.
Cheese To easily grate cheese, leave in freezer for 20 minutes. The
firmer cheese is the less likely to make a melted mess on your
grater.
Boiling Over Butter the rim of a pan in which you cook rice or pasta so it won't
boil over.
Greasy Gravy Add sage and onion to gravy granules they soak up the grease
and thicken the gravy so you need less gravy granules.
Too Much Salt If you accidentally over salt a dish while its still cooking, drop
in a peeled potato. It absorbs the excess salt.
Broken Bulbs When you break a light bulb in its socket, it can be very
difficult to remove it for replacement.
Try jamming a bar of soap, or a piece of raw potato in to the base
of the bulb then twisting it.The broken bulb should come out with
no problem.
Painting To catch paint drips, glue on the bottom of the tin a paper plate
2 or 3 inches wider than the paint tin. It also gives you some
where to put the brush
