In the early days of the Sunderland taxi you were more likely to be carried around in a horse drawn cab. In the 20th century cars started to replace the horse drawn cabs but there was still a special service that used the horse drawn cab that carried on into the 1930s.
Station Taxis were one of the first motorized taxi services to serve Sunderland, with there history going as far back as 1901 when a gentleman by the name of Monkhouse "Yorkie" Graham began operating his horse drawn cab.
