Billy Hardy born in Sunderland on 5th September 1964. Former bantamweight and featherweight boxer champion. He held the British championship at bantamweight and featherweight, as well as the European and Commonwealth featherweight titles. His professional record was 37-9-2 with 17 knockouts. The Billy Hardy Sports Centre, in Castletown, bears his name.

Son of a coal miner, Bryan Ferry cultivated his musical abilities while studying art at the University of Newcastle. Bryan Ferry was Roxy's front man until its demise in 1983 He also had a successful solo career during this time.
