The UK leg of the World Triathlon Championship series held on Wearside last weekend meant part of the competition included a swim at the beach off Roker.
When the water was tested on July 26 by the EA, they detected 39 times the amount of e-coli found in the samples.
57 triathletes suffered stomach pain and bloody diarrhoea with many of the 2000 athletes being sent questionnaires.
Shocking news for this prestigious event.

You don't have to because it can get into your system in other ways.

The sea is bad all around the country, not just here. Blame the water companies for not being heavily fined enough by this inept government, and dumping raw sewage into our lakes, rivers and streams which go straight into the sea.
It's happening UK wide, so the blame lies with the government for allowing it to happen.
