Is it really wise to start releasing prisoners early to ease prison capacity?

As this government is going to do...

We're already hearing of more serious crimes being committed recently, do we really need to be putting the public at risk?

It depends on the circumstances.
There are loads of people locked up in prison for petty crimes but why?
I doubt if serious criminals will be released early, so I hope they are referring to petty offenders.
The whole prison system needs an overhaul in my opinion.

It's OK to have prisons, but it's another when their idiotic courts are sending people to jail for doing something petty.
It is time to reeducate the magistrates and judges.

What would you consider as a petty crime?
